Connect your goals with Relevant people

 When you start thinking of practicing your craft, you need to define your goals. This means that you need to draw a map of how,when,where and what you want to do with your craft.

If you are planning to work in a company: 

It is highly important to know that working in Swedish companies may be the most complicated way to find job but it is considered the most effecient way to get your job. Swedish companies need basic requirements to hire you, so you must have their basic requirments at least to apply for job.

Basic Requirements to apply for a Swedish companies:

  1. You are able to communiate with Swedish (or English) language, it depends on a company requirements

  2. Prepare your CV and include your skills

  3. Experience in Sweden with your specific craft 

  4. Swedish certificate to approve your skills.

  5. Recommendation from stakeholders  to ask about you in work

 

Many immigrants when they came here, they miss some important information that would change their situation and help them find job more effeciently. According to a number of immigrants after 3 years of living in Sweden, they did not know that they need Swedish certificate to get the first contract that guarantee their professional career. a huge number of them worked in a companies for more than one year but they couldn't get a sauitable contract because of not having an experience  or certificate in Swedn.

A certificate can be from a Swedish universities or from vocational education courses that goverment afford for people from outside countries or from Swedish companies courses. 

If you have these basic requirements then if your not registered in the employment agency , you have to do is to register your self in (Swedish public employment Service ). Then you will have a mentor to guide you while searching for your craft. Your mentor have to support you and look for the companies that fit your goals but in many situations you may find your mentor not helpful so don't hesitate to contact he\r to assure  your need for job and to ask  the questions that occur in your mind  to provide you with a guide to help you in that. you need to know that you can ask your mentor to afford you with the name of companies, events or meetings that you are looking for then the mentor will call you back. 

Another thing you can do is if you have a previous certificate from outside Sweden, you can ask your mentor for validation. Validation means that you get your skills and your skills assessed. This applies to knowledge that you have acquired through study, in working life and in everyday life.

​Your professional skills are assessed through practical and theoretical tests. After the assessment, you will receive a certificate or grade that will make your knowledge formally recognized in the Swedish labor market. You can also get recommendations on what you may need to supplement your skills with. This may mean that you can search for jobs or jobs more quickly (information from Swedish public employment Service ).

You also can ask your mentor to search for a specific course that can enhance your skills. The government in recent years have afforded free courses for newly comers to assure that they start their proffesional career correctly. The good thing about these courses that you improve you work languge, you gain a good level of experience in different places and you get a recommendation from companies. If you are thinking of Starting or being part of an association:

 

There is a strong tradition in Sweden of being involved in associations and many people are members of one or more of these in their free time. By joining associations you can get to know other people with the same interests and get more contacts in Swedish society. For people who have recently arrived in the country, membership of an association can be a way to meet new friends and quickly learn Swedish. In an association you can also work with important social issues.

There is freedom of association in Sweden. This is an important aspect of the democratic society. Freedom of association means that everyone has the right to start an association. A group of people who have a common interest or a shared background can start an association.

There are many different associations, e.g. sports clubs, cultural and music societies and religious associations. Working as part of an association is often voluntary and there is no wage.If you want to join an association, start an association or apply for money for your association, you can contact your municipality. The may be a recreation department, for example, in the municipality that helps associations (Information from https://www.informationsverige.se/)

If you are thinking of practicing your craft as a hobby:

A hobby is an activity that is independent and ongoing but which does not have a profit motive. If you earn money through your hobby, you are required to pay tax on what you earn.

What is a hobby?

A hobby might be for example handicraft, beekeeping, hunting, fishing, or a cultural activity. A hobby is:

  • something you do in your spare time

  • not your main source of income

  • not work that you do on assignment for someone else.

Income from a hobby is taxed within the income type “paid work” and you pay your own social security contributions.

There is no accounting obligation for a hobby, but you are obliged to keep records. This means that you must save records, bills, receipts, etc., for your tax return (Information from: https://www.verksamt.se/ ).

If you are planning to set up your company

If you are about to start up a business in Sweden, make sure you register your business on verksamt.se

Many Swedish authorities provide information on how to start a business in Sweden and an e-service for registration with several authorities at verksamt.se.

You can start a business in Sweden as:

  • a sole trader (Swedish: enskild näringsidkare), or

  • through a limited liability company (Swedish: aktiebolag),

  • a  trading partnership (Swedish: handelsbolag),

  • a limited partnership (Swedish: kommanditbolag), or

  • an economic association (Swedish: ekonomisk förening).

Approval for Swedish F-tax

Most businesses active in Sweden apply for approval for Swedish F-tax. When your business is approved for F-tax, your customers do not have to deduct taxes on payments made to you for work performed in Sweden (information from https://www.skatteverket.se/ )

An important factor that affect an early labor market entrance for you can be communicating with Swedish people that may direct you to the suitable place or to people in charge of your craft. It is highly important that you consider  the employment agency as your first reference. Another thing you have to keep in your mind is that you have to look for a course to get a certificate before working to gurantee a succeful proffesional career in Sweden.
